With a second week atop the Digital Songs chart, Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” roars No. 1 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100. The song’s ascension to the summit marks Clarkson’s third leader on the Hot 100.
The original “American Idol” first reigned with “A Moment Like This,” her Idol coronation song, for two weeks in 2002. She return to the top of the chart seven years later with 2009′s “My Life Would Suck Without You,” for two weeks in the beginning of that year.
Aiding Clarkson in her conquest of the Hot 100 is her recent presence in pop culture. She sang the National Anthem before Sunday’s (Feb. 5) Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. Super Bowl XLVI was the most-watch event in television history with 111.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen. “Stronger” serves as the soundtrack for Toyota’s current TV spot, where Clarkson sits in the driver’s seat, leading a sing-a-long with ESPN’s Chris Berman, Bravo’s James Lipton and the Travel Channel’s Andrew Zimmern.
“Stronger’s” surge to No.1 ends the two-week reign of Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain,” the third consecutive chart-topper from 21, which spends its 19th week atop the Top 200.
“Stronger” soars to the Hot 100′s top spot with top Airplay Gainer honors, charging 33-15 on the Radio Songs chart (58 million audience impressions, up 49%, according to Nielsen BDS).
On the Digital Songs survey, “Stronger” spends a second week at No. 1. The song sold 237,000 downloads (up 6%) in the list’s tracking week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The sum marks Clarkson’s second-best sales week, outpaced only by the debut frame of “My Life” (280,000).
