Don Cornelius, the creator of Soul Train, has been found dead after an apparent suicide.
Police found Cornelius’ body Wednesday morning around 4 a.m. in his Sherman Oaks, Calif., home. He died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to TMZ.
The Los Angeles Times said there was no sign of foul play, and an LAPD investigation is underway.
Cornelius launched the TV dance party show, Soul Train, in 1971. Soul Train went on to have the longest run in national syndication of any series ever until it wrapped in 2006.
